Duties & Responsibilities
A Grinder in the petrochemical industry plays a critical role in maintaining and preparing materials, equipment, and components used in production, construction, and maintenance activities. Their primary responsibilities revolve around ensuring surfaces are properly prepared for welding, repairs, or coating, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Responsibilities
Material Preparation

• Operate grinding tools to clean, smooth, and shape metal surfaces and components.
• Prepare metal surfaces for welding by removing rust, scale, old paint, or imperfections.
• Perform bevelling and edge preparation for joining processes.

Tool Operation and Maintenance

• Operate handheld or stationary grinding equipment, including angle grinders, belt sanders, and other abrasive tools.
• Inspect grinding tools regularly and perform minor maintenance, such as replacing grinding wheels and ensuring proper alignment.
• Maintain a clean and organized tool station.

Quality Control

• Inspect workpieces to ensure they meet dimensional specifications and surface finish requirements.
• Use measuring instruments like callipers, micrometres, and gauges to verify tolerances.
• Report defects or inconsistencies to supervisors or quality control teams.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow all workplace safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as goggles, gloves, face shields, and respirators.
• Ensure proper ventilation and dust extraction while grinding.
• Adhere to petrochemical industry standards and protocols to prevent contamination or accidents.

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with welders, fabricators, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless operations.
• Provide feedback on material conditions and surface quality for effective planning.
• Communicate any challenges or required adjustments to supervisors or team leaders.

Documentation and Reporting

• Record work performed, including material details and any deviations from standard procedures.
• Report equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to management.
• Maintain records of grinding wheel usage and replacement schedules.

Environmental and Hazardous Waste Management

• Properly dispose of grinding debris and waste materials in compliance with environmental regulations.
• Handle materials responsibly to minimize contamination risks in sensitive petrochemical environments.

Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on new grinding techniques, tools, and safety protocols.
• Participate in training programs to enhance skills and efficiency.
• Provide suggestions for improving grinding operations and material handling.

 
Experience & Qualification

• 3 to 5 years’ experience.
• Trade certificate for grinding.

Our client in the Petrochemical industry is seeking to employ a Grinder to join their team. Please note that this is a (fixed term contract).
