About the Role

The Safety & Compliance Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization’s adherence to health and safety regulations, reducing financial costs associated with risks and concerns, and promoting a culture of compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and mitigating potential accidents and health hazards, conducting training sessions, and implementing corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct risk assessments and audits to ensure machinery and equipment are safe and that management systems and working methods meet current legal standards.
• Identify and test areas for potential accidents and health hazards.
• Monitor compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
• Investigate potential compliance violations and recommend corrective actions.
• Report compliance issues to senior management.
• Conduct regular compliance training for employees.
• Coordinate emergency procedures, firefighting, and first aid.
• Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program.
• Identify and assess compliance risks across all areas of the organization.

Requirements

• Relevant experience in health and safety, risk management, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and legislation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications in health and safety, risk management, or a related field (e.g. BCom Health and Safety, HSE Diploma).
