Job description:
The SA Steelworks, Engineering department currently has a vacancy for an attentive to detail, meticulous, methodical individual to join their team. The successful candidate will form part of a multi-disciplinary team and will report directly to the Engineering Manager. The prospective candidate will be involved in a wide range of projects involving machine design, civil engineering and continuous improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Following specifications and calculations to create various technical drawings
- Produce detailed drawings for fabrication/manufacturing
- Produce detailed drawings for machined parts
- Produce General Arrangement and Layout drawings
- Conduct site measurement of structures and areas
- Consultation with Engineers and workshop teams to get input to optimize designs
- Accurate record keeping, updating, and general control of all drawings
Qualifying Experience:
- Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
- Formal drafting certification
- Drafting experience in AutoCAD and Solid Works packages
- Computer literate proficient in MS Office
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in manufacturing/production environment
- Engineering design knowledge is essential, with experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, powertrain and machine components
- Knowledge of structural steel tables and sections essential
- Proficient in sheet metal, pipe routing and structural design
- Proficient with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Production of detailed site plans, utility layouts, structural and machine layouts

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Prepared to work overtime when required
- Ability to multi-task and manage a demanding workload in a pressurised environment
- Ability to effectively communicate with people on all levels
