Job Summary
Responsibilities
General Accounting
-
Maintain accurate financial records and perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
-
Monitor cost of production, raw material usage, energy consumption, and yield variances.
-
Manage fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules.
-
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes.
-
Assist with internal and external audits and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
-
Track and report capital projects and operational expenditures.
-
Collaborate with operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to align accounting practices with plant activity.
Payroll Administration
-
Administer payroll processing for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
-
Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, bonuses, deductions, and leave balances.
-
Ensure timely and accurate payment of wages and applicable taxes.
-
Reconcile payroll transactions and interface with the general ledger.
-
Prepare payroll reports for internal use and external compliance (e.g., tax filings, benefits reporting).
-
Work with HR to maintain employee confidentiality and accurate compensation records.
-
Stay current on payroll regulations, labour laws, and industry-specific agreements.
Requirements
-
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
-
3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year of direct payroll processing experience.
-
Knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting, especially in industrial or manufacturing settings.
-
Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., Sage Cloud Accounting and Sage Cloud Business Payroll).
-
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
-
Familiarity with labour regulations, payroll tax filings, and benefits administration.
-
Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
-
Experience in bio-refinery, chemical, renewable energy, or process manufacturing industries.
-
Understanding of sustainability reporting, carbon credit accounting, or government grant tracking.
-
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data integrity.
-
Strong organizational and time-management skills
