Job Description

To support their growth and their people-first culture, an experienced Head of Human Resources is sought to join the leadership team.
The Role
The Head of Human Resources will lead all HR functions across their vineyard, winery, and hospitality departments. This role requires a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in labour relations, workforce planning, payroll, policies, Health & Safety and employee engagement. You will play a pivotal role in shaping their culture, ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation, and driving initiatives that support both seasonal and permanent staff. This role will report to the board quarterly.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement HR strategy aligned with business objectives.

Lead workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning and retention for both permanent and seasonal teams.

Ensure compliance with South African labour laws (BCEA, LRA, OHSA, EE, POPIA).

Oversee performance management, training, and career development programs.

Promote a positive organizational culture through employee engagement initiatives.

Manage employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary procedures fairly and effectively.

Partner with leadership to support change management and organizational growth.

Overseeing annual tax reporting and payroll; managing communication and grievances.

Oversee Health & Safety reporting across the estate, reporting to the Managing Director ensuring WEITA compliance.

Develop, implement and maintain HR policies in line with legislation
Requirements
-
SA Citizen
-
Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
-
Minimum of 710 years HR leadership experience, preferably within hospitality, wine, tourism, or agriculture.

Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation and HR best practices.

Strong Knowledge of Health & Safety reporting, WEITA and payroll systems.

Proven experience managing both large hospitality teams and seasonal workforce needs.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.

Excellent understanding, navigation and usage of all Microsoft word applications, Adobe, Sage payroll software, BVPD compliance software, ERS Biometrics, e-filing.

Preferably reside in the Cape Winelands and surrounds
