- Matric
- Trade Test Certificate (Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic, or similar)
Requirements
- 5–10 years’ hands-on experience in repairing and rebuilding mining machinery.
- 3+ years in a supervisory or management role in a mining or heavy industrial workshop.
- Strong knowledge of mining equipment brands (e.g., CAT, Volvo, Metso).
- Familiarity with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical diagnostic systems
Duties
Workshop Operations
- Plan, coordinate, and manage daily workshop activities related to diagnostics, repair, and overhaul of mining equipment.
- Supervise complete machine rebuilds and component refurbishments (e.g., engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems).
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OEM specifications and industry standards.
Team Management
- Lead and supervise a team of artisans, fitters, welders, mechanics, and apprentices.
- Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and conduct on-the-job training and mentoring.
- Ensure proper shift coverage and productivity targets are met.
Quality & Technical Oversight
- Perform technical assessments and root cause failure analysis on major components and machines.
- Ensure the use of correct tools, parts, and methods in all repair and rebuild work.
- Approve final inspections and quality control checks before equipment is returned to service.
Health & Safety
- Enforce all workshop health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with site and legal safety standards.
- Conduct safety toolbox talks, risk assessments, and incident investigations as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
Resource & Inventory Management
- Manage inventory of spare parts, tooling, lubricants, and consumables.
- Coordinate procurement with the stores or supply chain team to minimize downtime.
- Track usage and report discrepancies or delays in parts supply.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed service and rebuild records for all machinery and components.
- Provide regular reports on workshop performance, machine turnaround times, and cost tracking
