About the Role
Join our esteemed team as a Pastry Junior Sous Chef in a world-class private game reserve located in the heart of the Sabi Sands. We are seeking a talented and passionate individual who thrives in a luxury hospitality environment, with a flair for creativity while maintaining the highest culinary standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the daily operations of the pastry kitchen in line with 5-star standards of excellence.
- Maintain fridges and stores to the highest hygiene and stock rotation standards.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen and lodge front-of-house staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Correctly use and maintain kitchen equipment.
- Accurately and timeously order ingredients required for the section.
- Maintain and consistently produce items from a set of recipes within the pastry section.
- Focus on the training and development of kitchen skills within the team.
- Provide clear handovers between shifts to ensure continuity.
- Contribute towards sustainability initiatives, operating within environmental parameters and seeking opportunities to further enhance eco-friendly practices.
Requirements
- Senior High School/Secondary School qualification.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a medium-sized pastry kitchen.
- Three-year chef’s qualification.
- Strong understanding of kitchen procedures, timing requirements, and planning.
- Creative flair with the ability to design and implement new pastry menus.
- Ability to train and manage staff, with basic knowledge of labour legislation.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and proficiency in using firefighting equipment.
Qualifications
- Senior High School/Secondary School qualification.
