About the Role
As a Construction Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials, subcontractors, and services. This role is ideal for someone organized, detail-focused, and confident in negotiating with suppliers. You will ensure that purchases are cost-effective, delivered on time, and meet required quality standards while collaborating with project managers, site teams, and quantity surveyors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain procurement schedules aligned with project timelines.
- Process purchase requisitions efficiently and anticipate material requirements to prevent project delays.
- Source, evaluate, and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitive pricing.
- Negotiate prices, discounts, and favourable payment terms, while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure all procured goods and services meet specifications, contractual obligations, and compliance requirements.
- Prepare, review, and manage supplier contracts to mitigate risks and maintain accurate documentation.
- Monitor supplier performance, market trends, and procurement spend to support informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams to forecast demand, plan procurement activities, and resolve challenges.
Requirements
- Grade 12; certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management preferred.
- 35 years experience in procurement, ideally within construction, engineering, or manufacturing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and procurement-related software.
- Knowledge of contract management, compliance, and market trends.
Qualifications
- Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (if available)
