Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW / ROLE PURPOSE

The Logistics Consultant plays a critical role in expanding our client base and optimizing our road freight operations. This position requires a dynamic individual with a blend of sales acumen and operational expertise in the logistics industry, specifically in road freight and agriculture industry. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in business development, a deep understanding of road freight logistics, and the ability to drive new business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Establish and nurture relationships with both new and existing clients, including conducting regular visits
    • Develop and strengthen relationships with current transporters, clients, and truck drivers
  • Client and Transport Expansion:
    • Actively seek and identify new business opportunities through networking, cold calling, and other lead generation activities
    • Build and maintain relationships with potential clients and transporters, understanding their needs and providing suitable solutions
  • Cost Analysis:
    • Understand the running costs of vehicles to determine Cost Per Kilometre (CPK)
    • Analyze commodity trends and adapt strategies to market fluctuations
  • Administrative Procedures:
    • Maintain established administrative procedures to ensure smooth operations
    • ETA Tracking and Communication
    • Follow up with transporters to determine the accurate Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) of trucks
    • Communicate effectively with clients to keep them informed about the status of their cargo
  • Haulage Services:
    • Provide timely and efficient haulage services to meet the Companys delivery deadlines
    • Maintain constant contact with clients and haulers to develop strong relationships and secure business
  • Negotiation and Quotations:
    • Negotiate tariffs, fees, discounts, and contracts with clients and haulers
    • Compile quotations for both new and established clients to ensure competitive pricing and service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Qualification/Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 2 – 4 years experience as a Logistics Consultant (Sales) / Transport Broker in the Logistics/Supply Chain Management industry Agricultural highly preferred:
    • Commodities
    • Cross border Sales
    • Import & Exports
  • Experience working within Logistics Operations in the transport industry
  • Extensive New Business Development and Sales experience required
  • Ability to manage a large Client book and experience managing a high-volume client book
  • Adding new clients and transporters to existing book
  • Strong understanding and experience in road freight logistics and supply chain management
  • Building and maintaining relationships with new and existing clients, including regular visits
  • Negotiating new contracts
  • Negotiate transport rates with clients and transporters
  • Manage volumes allocated to the Company
  • Understand the running cost of a vehicle to determine CPKs
  • Analyze commodity trends and adapt to market fluctuations
  • Keep track of the daily and monthly budgets
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite
