Job Description

Finance Department Location: Bottelary Road, Koelenhof, Stellenbosch Reports to: Financial Accountant About the role A well-established international commodity trading business is looking to appoint a Junior Accountant to support its finance function. This role offers hands-on exposure to transactional accounting, reconciliations, and month-end processes within a fast-paced, multi-currency trading environment, with clear development pathways towards trade accounting and commercial finance roles. Key responsibilities Support day-to-day accounting and transactional processing across multiple entities and currencies. Assist with cash, intercompany, and balance sheet reconciliations under supervision. Investigate and clear reconciling items, maintaining strong audit trails and internal controls. Support month-end close activities, including accruals, prepayments, and fixed asset maintenance. Assist with basic variance analysis and financial reporting. Gain exposure to commodity pricing, freight, and trade-related cost components. Maintain master data within finance and trading systems. Support reconciliations between trading platforms and accounting systems. Contribute to process improvements and documentation of finance procedures. Assist with statutory, regulatory, tax, and audit requirements, including internal and external audits. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and reconciliations. Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, with strong Excel capability. Comfortable working with Teams and SharePoint. High attention to detail and strong numerical and analytical skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with internal stakeholders. High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct. Willingness to learn and develop within a commercial finance environment. Experience and qualifications 1–2 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role. Exposure to ERP or accounting systems (PeopleSoft or similar advantageous). Experience in a multi-currency environment advantageous. Interest in commodity markets or international trade beneficial.
