About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Software Systems Engineer to join our team in Uitenhage. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the in-house capability of development, testing and corrective actions on electronic powertrain management systems used by our client. This role requires a strong understanding of engine management calibration, testing and release functions, both locally and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engine application on test benches and in vehicles by modifying relevant parameters, recording measured variables and evaluating their effects to determine optimal parameter configurations for performance, emissions and hardware protection.
- Evaluate vehicle behaviour and conduct engine management calibration by preparing test vehicles, executing procedures and reporting findings to support system development and fault diagnosis.
- Coordinate the installation of engine management test equipment into both EVs and ICE vehicles, ensuring full system functionality and test accuracy.
- Analyse and process test data using specialised software (INCA and DiagRA) to produce insights supporting application changes and software release decisions.
- Represent Product Development in cross-divisional and corporate forums, contributing to discussions, negotiations and presentations to align development goals, timing and cost considerations.
- Support the Production, Pilot Hall and Product Development Series Support teams in escalating and resolving software or components issues during pre-series and series builds to prevent line stoppages and ensure production continuity.
- Support the Product Development Series Support Team with the investigation and resolution of field quality and warranty issues related to Powertrain software and components, minimising customer complaints and protecting brand reputation.
Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year’s experience working in an automotive engine management environment.
- Experience with powertrain management systems, vehicle emission control systems, and vehicle emissions legislation.
- Familiarity with engines, powertrain systems, and powertrain related engineering concepts.
- Specialized computer literacy including engine management, diagnostics and simulation tools such as ODIS Engineering, INCA, ASCMO, Silver Synopsis, MATLAB Simulink, and DiagRA.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong report writing, analytical, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (BEng/BTech/NDip) is required.
