About the Role

Pronel Consultants is seeking a hands-on and experienced Workshop and Parts Manager to oversee the daily operations of a busy engineering and fabrication workshop in Pietermaritzburg. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, jobbing environment and have the ability to manage both workshop activities and parts inventory efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate daily workshop operations
  • Allocate jobs to workshop staff and monitor progress
  • Ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met
  • Supervise and lead a small team of artisans and workshop personnel
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands-on support where required
  • Oversee stock control, including ordering and managing parts and consumables
  • Maintain accurate records of stock, job progress, and workshop activities
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized working environment

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a workshop, fabrication, or engineering environment
  • Strong technical background (previous experience as a mechanic, fitter, or similar)
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or management role
  • Knowledge of parts, stock control, and inventory management
  • Ability to work in a jobbing (custom work) environment
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and leadership abilities
