About the Role
Pronel Consultants is seeking a hands-on and experienced Workshop and Parts Manager to oversee the daily operations of a busy engineering and fabrication workshop in Pietermaritzburg. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, jobbing environment and have the ability to manage both workshop activities and parts inventory efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate daily workshop operations
- Allocate jobs to workshop staff and monitor progress
- Ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met
- Supervise and lead a small team of artisans and workshop personnel
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands-on support where required
- Oversee stock control, including ordering and managing parts and consumables
- Maintain accurate records of stock, job progress, and workshop activities
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized working environment
Requirements
- Proven experience in a workshop, fabrication, or engineering environment
- Strong technical background (previous experience as a mechanic, fitter, or similar)
- Prior experience in a supervisory or management role
- Knowledge of parts, stock control, and inventory management
- Ability to work in a jobbing (custom work) environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and leadership abilities
