Job Description
1. Operational Management
- Oversight on the entire manufacturing process, to ensure that adequate systems are in place to secure: Raw material availability, Daily process outputs that meet customer demand; adequate finished goods to support customer policy and protect against any potential risk including and not limited to machine breakdown, material supply, quality spills, infrastructure failure.
- To drive best and most effective cost efficiency across all processes (indirect and direct)
- Cascading of suitable metrics to drive strategic key performance indicators (KPIs) and hold teams accountable for reporting on these KPI’s.
- Manage and optimize inventory levels to meet production needs while minimizing waste.
2. Plant:
- Support and lead all plant projects, implementations and manufacturing processes
- Coach and mentor employees to ensure production standards are continuously challenged for improvement.
- Ensure the engineering changes are adequately managed and executed timeously.
- Support structured problem-solving methodologies on processes and equipment to rectify or improve the current status.
3. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, manage and nurture a dynamic and competent workforce through a robust performance driven culture ensuring an enabling climate
- Foster a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Collaborate with other Regional heads for optimised Business unit performance.
- Provide clear direction, set goals, and ensure accountability across the operations team.
- Identify training and development needs and implement programs to enhance employee skills.
- Participate in the implementation and utilisation of Equity related processes
- Conduct Performance Reviews and manage sub-standard performance and amplify the performance and talent of above standard perfromers.
4. Quality Assurance
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures to deliver defect-free products.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to identify and address quality issues.
- Drive initiatives to reduce rework, scrap rates, and improve overall product quality.
- Ensure that the Quality management system is aligned with IATF16949 requirements.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Drive a culture of engagement to ensuring the safety of all individuals is respected and protected.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure accountability of all employees to follow safety protocols.
6. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency on 4M’s and drive lean manufacturing principles.
- Lead initiatives to reduce costs, increase productivity, and optimize resource utilization.
- Implement and sustain strong 5S systems.
- To improve the factory buildings, equipment, material and processes to improve profit, productivity, safety and quality
- Champion for the continuous improvement program (CIP) within the business unit, ensure the CIP culture is active in every plant
- Ensure projects are monitored against deliverables agreed by the CIP team
- Ensure CIP log is maintained
- Provide monthly report of achieved progress vs. targets in CIP for management pack
7. Projects:
- Support and mentor the development of production processes
- Assist in the definition/planning of new equipment for incoming projects
- Investigate new technologies relevant to the production processes within the plant
- Prepare and present technical reports and presentations to management and/or customers
- Support and advise with current and future plants layouts
8. Strategic Planning
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and execute operations strategies aligned with business goals.
- Forecast future operational needs and plan accordingly, including capacity planning and resource allocation.
9. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments such as Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and HR to ensure seamless operations.
- Communicate regularly with customers and suppliers to address any operational concerns.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings and provide input on operational challenges and opportunities.
10. Budget & Cost Management
- Develop, monitor, and control the operations budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality or safety.
- Participate in BU/plant Audit processes
- Ensures company assets (working capital & fixed assets) are protected and maintained
- Detect and prevent fraud
- Promote good Corporate Governance practices
11. Technology & Innovation
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in manufacturing technologies.
- Support implementation of new tools, equipment, or technologies to enhance operations.
12. Reporting
- Monthly reporting of plant performance to the Managing Executive
- All reporting as required
