About the Role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Lambton store is seeking a Dispensary Support to join our team on a Fixed Term basis. The primary purpose of this role is to equip learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to become a registered Basic Pharmacist Assistant. This opportunity will provide learners with hands-on experience in a pharmacy environment, allowing them to develop their understanding of pharmaceutical principles and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Unpacking and merchandising of stock, cleaning of dispensary and OTC shelves, as approved by the responsible pharmacist.
  • Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner within legal requirements.
  • Check medication for accuracy, including picking, packing, labelling, and checking expiration dates.
  • Assist with the control of stock, including cleanliness and organisation of shelves and medicine expiry dates.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager.
  • Provide information to individuals to promote health and well-being.
  • Assist with scheme authorization of chronic, HIV, and AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Report on low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Receive dispensary stock in accordance with SOP set out by the company.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Matric or a Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Science, and/or Physical Science obtained at least an average of 50%.
  • Completed a proficiency test approving registration with Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English and one second language.
