About the Role
A leading advanced audio technology company focused on next-generation acoustic innovation is seeking an experienced Principal Audio Systems Architect & DSP Expert to join their team in Knysna. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and developing proprietary audio technologies for high-performance environments, leading the architecture of complex audio systems that integrate machine learning, advanced DSP, and hardware-software co-design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of proprietary Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technologies for advanced audio applications.
- Design and implement AI-driven audio processing systems for real-time deployment.
- Architect advanced spatial audio systems, including object-based audio and immersive sound staging.
- Develop bio-sensor synthesis technologies integrated into audio platforms.
- Contribute to and guide the company’s IP and patent strategy related to audio and signal processing innovations.
- Drive hardwaresoftware co-design to optimize performance in embedded audio systems.
- Develop and optimize adaptive filtering systems for complex acoustic environments.
- Lead the implementation of neural network architectures for real-time audio processing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to bring advanced audio technologies from concept to production.
Requirements
- PhD or Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Digital Signal Processing, or a related field, with a strong focus on audio systems.
- Deep expertise in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and adaptive filtering methods such as LMS, NLMS, and RLS.
- Strong understanding of control theory and acoustic feedback systems.
- Proven experience developing and launching ANC-enabled products.
- Advanced knowledge of deep learning for audio, including experience with RNNs, LSTMs, or CRNs.
- Experience optimizing neural networks for real-time and edge deployment on DSPs or NPUs.
- Strong expertise in spatial audio technologies, including Head-Related Transfer Functions (HRTFs), Ambisonics, and object-based audio.
- Solid understanding of acoustic engineering challenges in high-noise environments, particularly aviation-related acoustic conditions.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for signal processing and system modeling.
- Strong programming skills in Python (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and C/C++ for embedded DSP development.
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering (audio or aviation focus preferred).
