Job Summary
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Material Specialist with 10+ years of experience in oil, gas, and construction industries. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of material procurement, specification, and management, ensuring that all materials required for large-scale projects are sourced, procured, and delivered efficiently. This position, based in Saudi Arabia, will involve managing material logistics, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and overseeing quality assurance of materials used in the construction process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the identification, procurement, and management of materials required for oil, gas, and construction projects, ensuring adherence to specifications, schedules, and budgets.
- Develop and manage material specifications for construction, procurement, and installation phases of large-scale oil, gas, and construction projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to identify and select appropriate materials for each phase of the project.
- Ensure the quality, compliance, and certification of materials used in the project, including raw materials, equipment, and components.
- Prepare and manage material take-offs and procurement plans based on project design documents and specifications.
- Source and evaluate potential suppliers, ensuring they meet the required quality, delivery timelines, and cost parameters for the project.
- Negotiate contracts and prices with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective procurement of materials.
- Coordinate the logistics for material deliveries, ensuring timely arrival and safe handling of materials on-site.
- Track material usage and inventory levels on-site, ensuring that materials are available for project activities without overstocking or material shortages.
- Review and approve material submittals, ensuring that all materials used are compliant with design requirements and specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of materials on-site to ensure they meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical support in the form of material recommendations and solutions for engineering and construction teams.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring strong partnerships and reliable material sourcing.
- Track and report on the performance of materials used in the project, including any issues related to delivery delays, quality concerns, or compliance failures.
- Participate in project meetings to discuss material requirements, challenges, and logistics with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Manage material-related documentation, ensuring all material orders, deliveries, and invoices are accurately recorded and tracked.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant local and international standards for materials used in construction, including Saudi Arabian regulations and industry standards.
- Monitor project material costs and work with procurement teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and material substitutions where appropriate.
- Provide training and guidance to junior material specialists and other team members on material procurement, handling, and management best practices.
- Ensure all materials are handled and stored safely on-site, in compliance with safety regulations and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in materials technology and procurement trends within the oil, gas, and construction industries.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience as a Material Specialist in oil, gas, and construction industries.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, their applications, and standards used in the oil, gas, and construction sectors.
- Proficient in material procurement, inventory management, and logistics.
- Knowledge of local and international material standards, including ASTM, ISO, and Saudi Arabian regulations.
- Experience in working with suppliers and vendors, and the ability to negotiate and manage procurement contracts effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
- Knowledge of material tracking software, procurement tools, and inventory management systems.
- Familiarity with quality control processes and procedures for construction materials.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify material-related issues and develop solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic project environment.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
- Familiarity with environmental, health, and safety standards regarding material handling and storage.
Preferred Skills:
- Professional certifications in material management or procurement (e.g., ISM, CIPS, MRICS, etc.).
- Experience working on large-scale oil, gas, and construction projects in Saudi Arabia or the Middle East.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and other project management tools.
- Prior experience in managing critical path materials and high-value materials for large construction projects.
