Job Summary
Area/Location: Hoedspruit
Job Overview:
An energetic and passionate Head Guide is sought to join a dedicated team at an exclusive, privately-owned game lodge in Pilanesberg. The ideal candidate will have experience in field guiding, front-of-house, housekeeping, and laundry management.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and train a team of guides.
- Organize work schedules, assignments, and rotations.
- Provide feedback and conduct performance reviews.
Client Interaction
- Ensure a welcoming and informative experience for clients.
- Address client concerns, complaints, or special needs effectively.
- Act as a role model for exceptional customer service.
Trip Planning and Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and lead tours, expeditions, or outdoor activities.
- Ensure itineraries are followed and adapt plans for unforeseen circumstances.
- Conduct pre-trip briefings and post-trip evaluations.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols and risk management procedures.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, permits, and organizational policies.
- Maintain emergency preparedness and oversee rescue or evacuation plans.
Equipment and Resource Management
- Oversee the maintenance and inventory of gear, vehicles, or equipment.
- Manage logistics, including supply chains for expeditions.
- Ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards.
Training and Development
- Develop training programs for new and existing guides.
- Promote skill development in navigation, first aid, and environmental stewardship.
Environmental Stewardship
- Promote responsible travel and environmental practices.
- Educate clients and staff about local ecosystems and conservation.
Administrative Duties
- Prepare trip reports, incident logs, and financial summaries.
- Collaborate with management to optimize services and meet business goals.
- Assist with marketing and promotional activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Extensive experience as a guide in the relevant field, with leadership roles preferred.
- Certifications: First Aid Level 1, FGASA Professional Field Guide, FGASA Trails Guide, ARH, PDP.
- Skills: Leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Physical
Requirements:
Ability to handle physically demanding activities and endure various weather conditions.
- Registration: Registered with Cathsseta and DEAT.
