Job Overview:
An energetic and passionate Assistant General Manager is sought to join a dedicated team at an exclusive, privately-owned game lodge in Pilanesberg. The ideal candidate will have experience in field guiding, front-of-house, housekeeping, and laundry management.
Primary Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Assist the General Manager in overseeing all lodge departments, including housekeeping, food and beverage, front office, guest services, and maintenance.
- Monitor daily operations to ensure the lodge operates smoothly and efficiently.
- Act as the point of contact for department heads to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Guest Experience Management
- Ensure exceptional guest service by addressing guest needs, complaints, and feedback promptly and professionally.
- Uphold and enhance the lodge’s standards of hospitality, comfort, and service.
- Oversee the planning and execution of special events, tours, or guest activities.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Supervise and motivate staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Assist with recruiting, training, and developing employees to meet operational standards.
- Provide team members with ongoing guidance and performance feedback.
Financial and Budgetary Support
- Assist with budgeting, cost control, and financial planning to optimize profitability.
- Monitor department expenses and ensure compliance with budgetary constraints.
- Prepare financial reports and support revenue generation initiatives.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental regulations are strictly followed.
- Develop and enforce policies for wildlife safety, conservation, and risk management.
- Oversee routine inspections and audits to maintain high standards.
Wildlife and Conservation Coordination
- Collaborate with guides, rangers, and conservation teams to ensure wildlife and natural resources are respected and preserved.
- Support educational programs for guests to promote responsible tourism and conservation efforts.
Maintenance and Facilities Oversight
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure the lodge’s infrastructure, vehicles, and equipment are well-maintained and operational.
- Address urgent repairs and oversee improvement projects.
Marketing and Guest Relations
- Promote the lodge through marketing campaigns, partnerships, and social media.
- Build and maintain relationships with tour operators, travel agents, and other key stakeholders.
- Monitor guest reviews and implement strategies to improve guest satisfaction scores.
Qualifications
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years in hospitality management, preferably in a luxury game lodge, safari lodge, or eco-tourism setting.
- Proven track record in team leadership, operations management, and guest relations.
- Computer literacy.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
Education:
- Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field preferred.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control.
- Proficiency in property management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional
Requirements:
- Knowledge of wildlife, eco-tourism, and conservation principles.
- First aid, CPR, or emergency response certifications are an advantage.
- Flexibility to work in a remote location and adapt to the unique challenges of a game lodge setting.
