About the Role
Hire Resolve is currently seeking an experienced Dairy Farm Manager to oversee and optimize all aspects of farm management for a leading farm operation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dairy farm operations, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to ensuring high-quality production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Herd Management
- Monitor the health, breeding, and overall care of the dairy herd.
- Implement herd health protocols, including vaccinations, disease prevention, and treatment.
- Oversee milking operations to ensure quality and cleanliness of milk.
- Manage feeding programs and nutritional needs, including forage, supplements, and water supply.
- Staff Supervision
- Hire, train, and manage farm workers, including milking staff, veterinarians, and other farmhands.
- Ensure workers follow farm protocols, safety regulations, and animal welfare standards.
- Schedule work shifts and manage day-to-day tasks.
- Milk Production
- Monitor and maintain high standards of milk quality and hygiene.
- Oversee the storage and cooling of milk, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations.
- Track production yields, identifying areas for improvement in efficiency and quality.
- Breeding and Calving
- Plan and oversee breeding programs to improve herd genetics and milk yield.
- Monitor the calving process, ensuring the well-being of both cows and calves.
- Manage artificial insemination (AI) and pregnancy testing.
- Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records of milk production, animal health, breeding, and inventory.
- Track financial data, including costs, revenues, and labor expenses.
- Use farm management software to monitor performance metrics and production trends.
- Farm Operations and Maintenance
- Oversee the maintenance of farm buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure that milking machines, feeding systems, and other farm machinery are functioning properly.
- Manage the procurement of feed, veterinary supplies, and farm equipment.
- Environmental Management
- Ensure proper waste management, including handling manure and wastewater responsibly.
- Implement sustainable practices to reduce environmental impact (e.g., water usage, land management).
- Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure that the farm complies with local, national, and industry-specific regulations (health, safety, animal welfare, environmental).
- Stay updated on changes in legislation and implement necessary adjustments.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years in dairy farm management.
Proven experience in managing dairy herd health, nutrition, and milking operations.
Strong leadership skills with experience in hiring, training, and managing farm workers.
Knowledge of milk quality standards and compliance with food safety regulations.
Expertise in dairy cattle breeding programs and calving management.
Proficiency in maintaining farm records and using farm management software.
Experience overseeing the maintenance of farm equipment and buildings.
Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and waste management.
Familiarity with health, safety, and animal welfare regulations in dairy farming.
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate farm machinery.
