About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Communicate Finance in Cape Town, South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance on engineering designs and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Approve, review, and provide technical guidance on engineering designs, calculations, and design development to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project scopes while managing scope variations and preparing supporting documentation
- Oversee drafting deliverables and provide strategic technical direction to the design team
- Develop and approve technical documentation including material take-offs, scopes of work, and detailed equipment specifications
- Evaluate vendor tenders, coordinate multidisciplinary technical integration, and ensure engineering deliverables align with scope, cost, and schedule requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 15+ years’ post-graduate experience in a senior mechanical engineering role within heavy industrial projects
- Registered as an ECSA Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist
- Strong technical aptitude with advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary coordination and mentor engineers-in-training
- Demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality engineering outputs within budgetary and scheduling constraints

- Minimum B.eng or Bsc in Mechanical Engineering
