About the Role
An established transport business specialising in container transport is looking to appoint a Logistics Coordinator to join their operations team. This is a hands-on, high-pressure role focused on managing container movements, coordinating trucks, and ensuring smooth execution between clients, depots, and ports.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage daily container movements (imports and exports)
- Plan and schedule truck loads between depots, clients, and ports
- Track vehicles and provide accurate ETA updates to clients
- Liaise with drivers, transporters, depots, and port operations
- Manage container bookings, collections, and deliveries
- Handle all transport documentation, including PODs and load confirmations
- Resolve operational issues such as delays, port congestion, or scheduling conflicts
- Communicate proactively with clients regarding shipment status
- Build and maintain strong relationships with transporters and key stakeholders
- Ensure accurate system updates and administrative records
- Be available after hours when required for operational support
Requirements
Strong understanding of container transport operations
Ability to manage multiple loads and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication skills across drivers, clients, and internal teams
Strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving ability
High attention to detail and administrative accuracy
Commercial awareness, including transporter rates and cost control
Ability to work independently and take ownership of operations
Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a logistics / transport coordination role
Proven experience in container transport (essential)
Experience working with ports, depots, and container flows
Solid understanding of the South African transport market
Relevant qualification in Logistics / Supply Chain (advantageous)
Experience with transport systems and Excel
