APC Engineer Location: Somerset West, Cape Town (Hybrid)

Up to R1.6m per annum About the Role: The APC Engineer is responsible for managing Level 2 by enhancing and elevating customer value through the automation of optimisation strategy utilising both the client’s and third-party sensors. This role involves the design, implementation and monitoring of advanced control solutions on minerals processing operations globally. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the teams to develop unique solutions for minerals processing plant integrating the sensors (Level 1) and Monitoring & Diagnostics (Level 3) into a cohesive solution for the clients.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in chemical/metallurgical engineering or related qualification. Master’s degree in chemical/metallurgical engineering would be beneficial. Honours/ Masters in Control Engineering would be highly beneficial. At least 5 years’ experience in APC implementation and execution experience is required. Demonstrated track record for fully owning the APC lifecycle on multiple projects in required. Experience in applying Advanced Analytics, Modelling and Advanced Process Control in the Minerals Processing industry. Proficient in using appropriate software platforms for exploratory data analysis. 3-5 years Consultative Selling and Solution engineering and delivery experience in Industrial Software (Automation, Advanced Control) applied in Minerals Processing. Domain knowledge and experience in Minerals Processing. Experience in working with Python to understand the data collecting, merging, cleaning and preparation steps required to build and present relevant visualizations, for both technical and non-technical audiences, that not only pin-point low hanging fruit opportunities, but also highlight rapid-business value realization potential. Experience in structure and present a business case to final decision makers.

Responsibilities:

Develop innovative solutions and services offerings to make integration with client APC systems easier and of more value. Responsible for identifying, designing, implementing and maintaining APC solutions to our global mining customers. Responsible for supporting both the Business Development and Process Engineering Services functions through establishing a business case and technical feasibility, scope, roadmap and architecture APC product management. End to end technical and value assessments. Business case development. Data Mining and Opportunity Identification Workshops with various clients. Developing APC go-to-market strategy and narrative. Delegate tasks, projects, oversee quality of external consultants. Scoping, designing, simulating and execution of APC projects. Develop and own go-to-market proposal content. Support with technical input for proposals. Technical Proposal Development & Scope definition. Serve as technical consultant and co-approving/tailoring proposed solutions to global customers. Structure and present a business case to final decision makers, creating a picture of financially valuable solutions in a positive, honest and transparent way, making the sale to the client while concurrently eliciting team trust and buy in. Provide pricing guidance for different APC complexity levels. Act as Technical Consultant for pre-sale support and customer engagements. Owning the successful implementation life cycle of minerals processing APC Solutions with particular focus on crushing, grinding and flotation. Develop and automate monitoring for active APC solutions to ensure target benefits are sustainability being achieved as well as new improvement opportunities are continuously highlighted. Testing and benchmarking existing products suites to consult and guide the software development team on market related enhancement requirements as well as bug-fixes. Providing critical market feedback to the product management team. Provide technical input and support for training course content. Day-to-day people management of Process Data Analyst team- offer technical guidance, mentoring and coaching of team members. Development of APC skills within the wider team. Develop the skills within the support team to ensure that day to day APC monitoring can be performed without dedicated APC engineers.
