Cape Town City Centre: Security Systems Technician (CCTV & Access Control) posted by Public Discipline and Integration of Technology

1. Position Overview PDIT is seeking a skilled and experienced Security Systems Technician with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in installing, commissioning, maintaining, and fault-finding CCTV, Access Control, Intrusion Detection, and other integrated security technologies. The ideal candidate will be capable of working in commercial, industrial, and high-risk environments and must demonstrate strong technical competence and professional conduct. 2. Key Responsibilities Installation & Commissioning • Install and commission CCTV systems (IP and analogue). • Install, program, and commission Access Control systems and controllers. • Configure NVRs, DVRs, servers, switches, and related network components. • Perform cable installations including Cat5e, Cat6, fibre, and low-voltage power. • Install cameras, mounting hardware, maglocks, strikes, readers, and power supplies. • Ensure installation quality meets PDIT standards and client specifications. Maintenance & Support • Execute preventative and corrective maintenance on systems. • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair technical faults. • Respond to service calls within SLA timelines. • Document all repairs, configurations, and system updates. Technical Expertise • Knowledge of CCTV analytics, VMS platforms, and AI-based video functionality. • Integrate systems such as alarms, biometrics, turnstiles, and VMS. • Perform networking tasks (IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, PoE). • Interpret technical diagrams, wiring schematics, and layout plans. Client Interaction & Reporting • Provide professional support and communication on client sites. • Train end-users on deployed systems when required. • Complete job cards, reports, and installation documentation. • Uphold the PDIT brand with professionalism and technical excellence. 3. Minimum Requirements • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience with CCTV and Access Control systems. • Experience and certification with one or more of the following Hikvision, Avigilon, Impro, or similar platforms. • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals. • PSIRA registration advantageous. • Valid driver’s licence and reliable transport. • Ability to work independently and within a team. • Clear criminal record. • Willingness to work overtime or travel when necessary. 4.
