Cape Town City Centre: Senior Attorney (Family Law)

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: Handle a wide range of family law matters, including: Divorce (contested and uncontested) Child custody, access, and maintenance disputes Domestic violence and protection orders Matrimonial property regimes and antenuptial contracts Guardianship, adoption, and parental rights Mediation and settlement negotiations Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to clients in highly sensitive and confidential matters. Draft, review, and finalise legal documentation, pleadings, and court applications. Represent clients in family courts and other relevant forums. Manage and mentor junior attorneys, candidate attorneys, and support staff. Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a professional and empathetic service. Stay abreast of legislative changes, case law, and best practices in family law. Contribute to business development through networking, referrals, and professional presence. Requirements: Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Minimum 810 years post-admission experience, with a significant focus on family law. Proven track record of handling high-value, complex, and sensitive family law cases. Strong litigation and negotiation skills. Excellent drafting and legal writing ability. High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. Strong client relationship management and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Leadership and mentorship experience is essential. Personal Attributes: Empathetic yet objective, with the ability to handle emotionally charged cases. Detail-oriented and highly organised.
