Paarl, Water Treatment Industry, Salary Negotiable depending on experience and exposure About Our Client The company operates in the water treatment field, focusing on chemical and water treatment plant and equipment design, fabrication, testing, installation, and commissioning. They deliver projects involving process equipment, plant layouts, and containerized 3D models for mining installations and operations. The Role: Senior Mechanical Engineer (BSc/BEng Mechanical) The Senior Mechanical Engineer exists to lead mechanical design, engineering studies, and project engineering activities to ensure equipment and plants are designed, constructed, and commissioned according to technical codes and regulatory compliance. The role contributes to the business by driving innovation, reducing costs, and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and subcontractors to meet project schedules and budgeted requirements. Main focus areas include generating mechanical designs and plant layouts, managing technical specifications for vendor packages, and overseeing quality control and site interfaces from inception to handover. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical engineering with a minimum of 15 years experience and project engineering with 6 years experience. Design custom pieces of process equipment, perform FEA on structural members, and verify code and regulatory compliance. Generate mechanical design drawings, plant layouts, pipe routing, and 3D models for containerized plants. Coordinate different engineering disciplines and manage mechanical, civil, and other subcontracts from procurement to commissioning. Execute project engineering activities within budgeted schedules and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of South Africa. Conduct site and shop visits to inspect progress, perform punching and snagging, and witness factory or site acceptance testing. Support the Project Manager by reviewing project schedules, providing progress reports, and estimating costs for contract changes. Experience in the water treatment field and mining installations is advantageous. About You BSc (Mechanical) or B Eng (Mechanical) degree. 15 years minimum experience in Mechanical Engineering. 6 years minimum experience in Project Engineering and Management. Valid Drivers License. Knowledge in chemical and water treatment plant design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning. Ability to meet deadlines, work within a multi-disciplinary team, and provide professional service to clients. Strong communication skills, organized, and result-oriented with an innovative thinker mindset. Professional Engineering registration (Pr.Eng – ECSA) is beneficial. 5 years experience in the water treatment field is a plus. Experience in medium to large scale projects is advantageous.
