Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain equipment operation by completing inspections and preventative maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; keeping records.
DUTIES OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT MECHANIC/TECHNICIAN:
- On Site Start-up: Ensure that inspections prior to equipment start up as well as when equipment is starting up, is done and that the Plant is securely shut down at the end of each shift.
- Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on equipment on a daily basis.
- Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
- Complete machine shop operations; make adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Perform scheduled services as prescribed by equipment manufacturer.
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Contain costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Note machine hours and ensure that service kits get ordered and are available when service is due.
- Consult with site agent when services or repairs need to be done, book machines well in advance.
- Minimize breakdowns/downtime on equipment; act upon any breakdown with high priority.
- Maintain a high standard of maintenance on all plant and small plant.
- Ensure that plant is kept clean, safe, and free of leaks; evaluate the inside the cab of every machine on a regular basis.
- Keep all equipment in a Roadworthy condition at all times and ensure that license discs are valid.
- Complete job cards for work done on equipment and report on the weekly plant meeting.
- Keep records of all oils/grease and consumables issued to Plant; send to Head office weekly.
- Report to the site agent your arrival and departure from his site.
- Report abuse or damaging of plant to your direct Manager; take disciplinary action when necessary.
- Perform welding, gas cutting, and work with power tools as part of your duties as a construction mechanic.
- Assist with any related task to your best ability to ensure the operational requirements on site are met.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.
- Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Adhere to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Amendments.
- Adhere to conditions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Adhere to conditions of the Environmental Act. No spillage and wastage included.
- Adhere to basic conditions of employment as set out by the Company.
