Luxury hotel in Cape Town is seeking an experienced Hotel Financial Accountant holding a South African ID and working in the hotel industry to join its finance team. About the Role The Hotel Financial Accountant will take ownership of financial reporting, compliance, and control functions. The role requires a solid understanding of accounting principles and how they apply within a hotel operation, from revenue reconciliation to cost management and financial analysis. You will play a central role in maintaining balance sheet accuracy, preparing management reports, and providing actionable insights to support effective decision-making. Key Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting Prepare monthly management accounts and perform full balance sheet reconciliations. Maintain complete and accurate financial records in accordance with IFRS for SMEs. Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes. Accounts & Reconciliations Oversee all accounts payable and receivable activities, ensuring payments and collections are processed on time. Manage creditor and debtor accounts, with proactive follow-up on discrepancies. Maintain and reconcile daily cash book and banking transactions. Controls & Compliance Implement and monitor financial controls to ensure compliance with policies and regulations. Prepare VAT, tax, and statutory submissions accurately and on schedule. Identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions to strengthen financial integrity. Systems & Efficiency Utilise Opera PMS for financial analysis, reconciliation, and reporting accuracy. Streamline financial processes to improve efficiency and data accuracy. Leadership & Collaboration Supervise and guide accounting staff to achieve departmental goals. Work closely with auditors, department heads, and external partners to ensure transparent reporting. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (completed). Minimum 3 years of financial accounting experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel. Proficient in Opera PMS (finance and revenue-related modules). Advanced MS Excel and strong general computer literacy. Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines. Preferred Attributes Strong understanding of hotel revenue and cost structures.
