About the Role
Our client, a multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Durban and across Southern Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the engineering team on various projects, with a focus on mechanical design of rotating equipment, fluids, compressible gas (including LNG, LPG, ASME), and other relevant areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert mechanical design support to the engineering team
- Lead design teams and ensure timely project delivery
- Develop and maintain detailed design documentation
- Collaborate with customers and technical leads from client companies
- Oversee and mentor junior designers and engineers
Requirements
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in petrochemical/oil & gas projects within an EPCM/consulting engineering environment
- Excellent understanding of national and international petroleum/gas standards and regulations (NFPA, API, SANS, etc.)
- Proficiency in AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, and working knowledge of Autocad for directing drafting staff
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written in English
Qualifications
- BSc/BEng Mechanical or BTech ECSA Registration as a Professional Engineer is essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (e.g., Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Stress Analysis)
