Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Officer to join our clients team in the food industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations and standards within our organization.

Key

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with OHS, National Health, and Environmental Acts
  • Manage and maintain Safety and SHE performance
  • Compile, draft, and implement environmental management plans and environmental risk assessments on site
  • Facilitate and investigate all accidents and incidents within the workplace in line with 16.2 requirements
  • Compile SHE files, documentation, and communication
  • Manage the Safety and Environmental Risk and Impact assessment program
  • Provide monthly reports on incidents, near misses, injuries, and corrective actions
  • Receive SHE Representative inspection reports and document action lists based on identified risks
  • Maintain safety management systems
  • Manage, review, audit, and approve sub-contractor SHE files before site work begins
  • Manage and assist external OHS-related audits by customers or authorities as required
  • Ensure staff development and adherence to OHS policies and procedures
  • Provide safety training and coaching to employees, creating awareness of health and safety practices

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
  • Knowledge of HACCP
  • Safety Management Training Course (SAMTRAC) Advantageous
  • 3 to 5 years of administrative and technical experience in a Health and Safety environment
  • Proficient in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA)
  • Skilled in incident investigation
  • Experience in internal auditing
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, regulations, notices, and local bylaws
  • Possession of a Code 8/10 drivers license and own transport
  • Experience with integrated safety management systems (ISMS)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence positive change
  • Excellent attention to detail and strict adherence to procedures and policies
  • High level of initiative, responsibility, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to learn applicable food safety (HACCP) procedures, requirements, and company policies
