Job Summary

Job Purpose:
Accountable for and should ensure all aspects of the Accounts department is always managed efficiently and effectively.
Job Function:
General

  • Ensure suppliers are paid per the agreed term, accurately and timeously.
  • Implement and maintain sound internal controls and ensure standards are maintained within the accounts system.
  • Ensure all recons are supported by valid documentation and approved by the company.
  • Ensure readiness for all audits undertaken in credit section.
  • Ensure that there are no significant and repeat findings on all audits conducted.
  • Any other delegated tasks deemed as reasonable and as assigned by the reporting manager.

 Management and Development of Team

  • Ensure staff appointed are knowledgeable and possess the required skills in areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure teams master the necessary tools and processes.
  • Apply the strategy and business processes in line with global and local standards.
  • Assess operational risks, quality of service, financial balance, projects profitability and Whitehorse group competitiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, e.g. Arm Control, FMC, TSA, Security, TAPA, SQASH, Customs etc.
  • Identify competence levels and appoint key members in teams. Ensure they have resources and time needed to share knowledge within their team.
  • Responsible for reporting system to Management, Zalawi and Group
  • Report issues and propose solutions to Management as and when required.
  • Ensure workload is spread evenly amongst the team.
  • Ensure staff discipline is implemented and maintained as per company disciplinary procedures.
  • Responsible for staff attitudes and ensuring behavior that is always respectful and professional.

 Month end reporting

  • Ensure all month end reporting is accurate and on time.
  • Checking and approval of month end provisional and normal journals on the general ledger.
  • Reconciliations of all balance sheet items.
  • Forex revaluations.
  • Analysis of cost items on the profit and loss statement.
  • Salary Journal impact and balancing to system.

 Fuel orders

  • Monitor fuel supply and price changes.
  • Monitor and plan fuel orders after analysis of price and volume availability.

  • Monitor tyre supply and price changes.

 Stock control

  • Monitor and ensure regular monthly stock takes are completed for each depot.
  • Review and query stock variances.
  • Review and query stock rotation reports.

 Statutory requirements

  • Timely submission of VAT returns.
  • Prepare and post month Tax computation.

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements & Core Competencies

  • Matric
  • Diploma / degree in Finance related field
  • Professional membership an added bonus (SAIPA/SAIT)
  • Completed articles would be an added advantage.
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • 5+ years’ management experience in a similar environment
