About the Role
Phakisa Holdings is seeking a Junior Safety Officer to join our Operations team in Germiston- Eastern Suburbs, Gauteng. As a key member of our Safety Department, you will assist with implementing and maintaining health and safety systems, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, and promoting safe working practices in a high-risk foundry environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily safety inspections and workplace audits
- Identify hazards and report unsafe acts/conditions
- Support the implementation of HSE policies, procedures, and legal compliance
- Assist with incident/accident investigations and corrective action tracking
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness sessions
- Ensure PPE compliance and correct usage on site
- Assist with risk assessments and safe work procedures (SWPs)
- Support contractor safety management and induction processes
- Maintain safety files, registers, checklists, and inspection reports
- Assist with emergency preparedness and drills (fire, first aid, evacuation)
- Promote safety culture across all departments
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
- Strong communication and report-writing ability
- Willingness to work in an industrial/foundry environment
