A leading engineering and manufacturing firm based in Germiston is seeking a talented and driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone passionate about mechanical CAD design, sheet metal work, and creating innovative, practical solutions for industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design of mechanical components, with consideration for tolerances, fits, and manufacturing feasibility.

• Create 3D models and complete manufacturing drawing packs.

• Generate GA and component-level drawings for production.

• Perform FEA, heat loss, and flow calculations.

• Lead the conceptual design and development of mechanical systems from inception to final production.

• Manage design projects, liaise with clients, and attend project kick-offs.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards and client specifications.

• Create technical documentation and project timelines (Gantt charts).

• Innovate and rapidly implement functional, cost-effective solutions.

• Contribute to modular substation, MCC, BESS, genset, and E-house designs, among others.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Matric with Mathematics and Engineering Graphics & Design (EGD).

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering [B.Eng Mech].

• 25 years of experience in a mechanical design and manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor & Vault (highly advantageous) and/or SolidWorks.

• Strong grasp of design-for-manufacture principles and costing.

• Familiarity with welding techniques, procedures, and relevant specifications.

• Excellent project management, time management, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

• Excellent communication in English (read, write, speak); Afrikaans (conversational).

• A solid portfolio or proven track record of past mechanical design projects.

Preferred Background:
Experience working in one or more of the following sectors:

• Industrial or mining equipment design

• Custom fabrication and sheet metal manufacturing

• Shipping container modifications

• HVAC, hydraulic systems, and/or power generation solutions
