Job Summary
Responsibilities:
-
Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and standards.
-
Coordinate appointment, training, and competency verification of all legal appointees (e.g., 16.2s, First Aiders, Fire Marshals, SHE Reps).
-
Submit Section 24 and 25 reports timeously to the Department of Employment and Labour (DoEL) and Workmens Compensation Fund.
-
Maintain and regularly update the sites legal register.
-
Achieve zero legal non-compliance findings during internal and external audits.
-
Ensure 100% of legal appointments are updated and signed.
-
Lead and facilitate investigations of all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational diseases.
-
Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.
-
Oversee the full Injury on Duty (IOD) process: documentation, reporting, employee follow-up, and rehabilitation support.
-
Reduce Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR).
-
Ensure all incidents are investigated and closed out within prescribed timeframes.
-
Develop, review, and implement site-specific risk assessments, method statements, and safe work procedures.
-
Coordinate annual HIRA reviews; communicate and apply control measures effectively.
-
Conduct baseline, issue-based, and continuous risk assessments.
-
Complete monthly inspections and ensure timely corrective action follow-ups.
-
Develop and maintain an annual training plan covering legal, compliance, and operational safety requirements.
-
Deliver or coordinate HSE and quality training, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and inductions.
-
Maintain up-to-date and audit-ready training records.
-
Achieve a minimum 90% completion rate of the annual training plan.
-
Conduct internal SHERQ audits and coordinate external audits (legal, certification, and customer).
-
Lead preparation and participation in certification audits (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001, FSSC 22000).
-
Compile and present monthly SHERQ reports, statistics, and trend analysis to senior management.
-
Drive improvement in year-on-year audit scores (internal and external).
-
Vet, monitor, and evaluate contractors for HSE compliance before and during site work
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a SHERQ management role in the food industry
- Knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards, including FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of NEMA
- Ability to analyze data and identify trends to drive continuous improvement
- Certification in relevant industry-specific programs (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH) is preferred
