Grabouw: Technical Manager – Post Harvest (Pome)

About the Role

Join our team as a Technical Manager – Post Harvest (Pome) in Grabouw, and play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and marketability of apples and pears. With your expertise in post-harvest systems and protocols, you will collaborate with stakeholders to build and implement technical fruit quality and compliance systems, aligning these systems to meet different customers’ specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage post-harvest systems and protocols to ensure quality and marketability of packed product for our customers
• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement technical fruit quality and compliance systems
• Assess, develop, and adapt post-harvest fruit handling protocols and regimes to maximize packout and reduce waste
• Put in place systems to maximize the quality of packed fresh fruit while reducing quality defects and claims in the market
• Assist growers to manage harvest for optimal quality
• Assist with building variety optimization strategies and implementing the fruit variety seasonal plan

Requirements

• A BSc-degree in Horticulture / Food Science (Post-Harvest) or Similar Tertiary Qualifications
• Relevant Training and Experience in Food Safety and Compliance Systems
• At least 5-8 years experience within the fruit & packhouse industry
• Intermediate MS Office skills with advanced Excel Data Analytics

Qualifications

• A BSc-Degree in Horticulture / Food Science (Post-Harvest) or Similar Tertiary Qualifications
