Johannesburg: Data Scientist (Python, SQL) – Johannesburg – up to R570 per hour posted by E-Merge

In this role, you will be responsible for transforming complex data into clear, actionable insights that shape strategic business direction. You will leverage advanced analytics, statistical modelling, and machine learning techniques to identify trends, enhance performance, and fuel ongoing innovation across the organisation.

Responsibilities:

• Collect, clean, and process large datasets from multiple sources to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Develop and deploy predictive models to forecast trends, customer behaviours, and financial outcomes.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify actionable insights and business opportunities.
• Present analytical findings clearly using data visualization and storytelling techniques.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement data-driven strategies and automated solutions.
• Research and identify use cases for AI, Generative AI, and Large Language Model (LLM) solutions.
• Support the continuous improvement of data science practices and technology adoption across the business.
• Contribute to developing and maturing the data science capability within the organisation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Honours degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related analytical discipline.
• 6+ years’ experience in a data science or analytics position.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
• Experience with Big Data systems, distributed computing, and visualization tools (e.g., Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau).
• Solid understanding of machine learning, data mining, and statistical modelling.
• Strong communication skills-both verbal and written-with experience in documentation using Confluence.
• Proven ability to translate complex data into actionable business recommendations.
• Experience in financial crime detection, retention strategies, or customer trend analysis within financial services will be advantageous.

The Reference Number for this position is NG60902 which is a 12-month contract position based in Johannesburg offering a contract rate of up to R570 per hour negotiable on experience and ability.
