About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and energetic all-rounder to support our daily retail, warehouse, and delivery operations in Johannesburg. As a General Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring excellent customer service, efficient deliveries, accurate stock handling, safe equipment operation, and overall smooth business operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Customer Service (Primary Focus)
- Provide professional and courteous assistance to walk-in customers
- Assist customers with product selection and loading goods into vehicles
- Prepare, wrap, and dispatch customer and courier parcels
- Maintain strong customer relationships and deliver a consistently positive experience
- Report discrepancies or issues to management
* Driving & Deliveries
- Operate company vehicle (Code 10 with valid PDP)
- Conduct local deliveries and collections
- Collect stock from suppliers
- Plan efficient delivery routes using GPS
- Complete delivery notes, route sheets, and required documentation accurately
- Maintain cleanliness and care of company vehicles
* Warehouse & Stock Handling
- Pick, pack, and prepare orders accurately
- Load and off-load stock safely
- Receive and verify stock against purchase orders
- Inspect stock for damages and discrepancies
- Repackage and shelve stock appropriately
- Maintain accurate stock control and replenishment
* Machine & Equipment Operation
- Operate manufacturing and packaging machinery (including wood wool machine)
- Package finished products
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely
- Maintain equipment in good working condition
* Stock Take & Inventory
- Participate in compulsory monthly stock takes (one Saturday per month)
- Conduct stock counts and assist with inventory control
- Report shortages, damages, or inconsistencies
* General Operations & Maintenance
- Perform general operational and maintenance tasks
- Maintain cleanliness of store, warehouse, factory, and vehicles
- Ensure workspaces are safe, organized, and compliant
- Assist management with daily operational tasks and errands
* Administration & Compliance
- Complete picking slips, delivery notes, invoices, and related paperwork accurately
- Follow company systems, procedures, and policies
- Demonstrate initiative and proactive problem-solving
- Communicate clearly with management and team members
Requirements
- Code 10 Drivers Licence with PDP (essential)
- Minimum 2 years driving experience
- 12 years experience in warehouse, retail, logistics, or delivery environment
- Physically fit and able to lift and handle goods regularly
- Good knowledge of local routes and GPS navigation
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic mathematics and administrative skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Matric (Maths and English preferred)
Qualifications
- Forklift licence (or willingness to undergo training) – Advantageous
