About the Role
We are seeking an experienced actuary to join our team as Head: Actuarial Assumption & Model Development Validation. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex actuarial validation activities, reviewing key actuarial assumptions used in long contract boundary models, and performing independent validation of Prophet models. They will also provide high-level review of IFRS 17 and SAM annual results and document their findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute assumption and model review workplans
- Review key actuarial assumptions (including lapses, mortality, expenses) used in long contract boundary models
- Pressure-test contract boundary assumptions across IFRS 17 and SAM environments
- Perform independent validation of Prophet models (gross and financial reinsurance) for IFRS 17 and SAM
- Review model outputs including ORSA projections
- Validate IBNR triangulations and related methodologies
- Conduct high-level review of IFRS 17 and SAM annual results
- Document and communicate all validation findings to Balance Sheet Management and relevant stakeholders
Requirements
- 10 years post-qualification actuarial experience
- At least 5 years in senior validation, modelling, or assumption governance
- Strong technical expertise in Prophet model development, IFRS 17 and SAM valuation principles, and financial reinsurance mechanics
- Ability to lead complex actuarial validation activities independently
- Strong communication and stakeholder-engagement skills
Qualifications
- Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (FASSA)
- Life Fellowship preferred
- Life Practising Certificate (advantageous)
