About the Role
The Senior Auto Technician will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of mining equipment by installing, commissioning, and maintaining proximity detection, collision avoidance, and integrated safety systems. This role requires a strong technical background and excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex system issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, configure, and test proximity detection, collision avoidance, and integrated safety systems on mining equipment.
- Perform advanced fault-finding and diagnostics on electrical, electronic, and control systems.
- Ensure correct integration of safety systems with OEM machine systems and site infrastructure.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure optimal system availability.
- Install, configure, and commission fatigue monitoring systems on HDV and LDV vehicles, including calibration, parameter setup, and vehicle electrical integration.
- Diagnose and repair faults on fatigue monitoring components including cameras, sensors, control units, and alarms.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system layouts accurately.
- Ensure all installations comply with mine standards, OEM requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Complete all required documentation, risk assessments, inspections, and reports accurately and on time.
- Identify potential system risks and proactively implement corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training to junior technicians.
- Act as a technical escalation point for complex system issues on site.
- Maintain professional relationships with mine personnel, supervisors, and OEM representatives.
- Promote a strong safety culture on site at all times.
Requirements
- Qualified Auto Electrician — Trade Tested (essential)
- Minimum 5–8 years’ experience as an Auto Electrician in a mining environment
- Proven experience on mobile mining equipment
- Experience with proximity detection, collision avoidance, or safety-critical systems (advantageous)
- Relevant mining or OEM system training (advantageous)
- Knowledge of CANBUS systems, sensors, controllers, and safety interlocks
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Computer literate for diagnostics, configuration, and reporting
- Valid driver’s licence — Code B or higher
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in high-pressure environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Qualifications
No formal education or certifications are required for this role. Relevant trade testing and training are essential.
