About the Role
The Credit Risk Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of credit risk management, debt collection, and customer account management within Smith Garb. This role requires a strong understanding of credit policies, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and maximize revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify alternative data sources to improve scoring accuracy
- Implement debi checks and other mechanisms to enhance collections
- Optimise customer onboarding and manage system integrations
- Develop and enforce company credit policies
- Oversee a call centre with high automation (bots, WhatsApp, email, SMS)
- Contact customers to collect outstanding payments
- Negotiate repayment arrangements, settlements, and plans
- Escalate high-risk or complex accounts
- Monitor accounts daily for overdue payments
- Reconcile accounts and resolve billing discrepancies
- Review credit limits and recommend adjustments
- Ensure all collections activities comply with regulations and internal policies
- Handle customer information confidentially and ethically
- Follow legal procedures for external collections or legal action
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly collections reports
- Analyse data and maintain dashboards and management reports
- Offer solutions to resolve payment challenges while protecting company interests
- Collaborate with internal teams (sales, finance, customer service) and external partners
Requirements
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM software
- Strong understanding of credit policies and regulations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Finance, Business Management, or relevant qualification
- 8–10 years’ experience in credit control and debt collection
- Proven experience optimising loan management systems and automating processes
