About the Role

The Credit Risk Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of credit risk management, debt collection, and customer account management within Smith Garb. This role requires a strong understanding of credit policies, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and maximize revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify alternative data sources to improve scoring accuracy
  • Implement debi checks and other mechanisms to enhance collections
  • Optimise customer onboarding and manage system integrations
  • Develop and enforce company credit policies
  • Oversee a call centre with high automation (bots, WhatsApp, email, SMS)
  • Contact customers to collect outstanding payments
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements, settlements, and plans
  • Escalate high-risk or complex accounts
  • Monitor accounts daily for overdue payments
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve billing discrepancies
  • Review credit limits and recommend adjustments
  • Ensure all collections activities comply with regulations and internal policies
  • Handle customer information confidentially and ethically
  • Follow legal procedures for external collections or legal action
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly collections reports
  • Analyse data and maintain dashboards and management reports
  • Offer solutions to resolve payment challenges while protecting company interests
  • Collaborate with internal teams (sales, finance, customer service) and external partners

Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM software
  • Strong understanding of credit policies and regulations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Finance, Business Management, or relevant qualification
  • 8–10 years’ experience in credit control and debt collection
  • Proven experience optimising loan management systems and automating processes
