Job Purpose To assemble, install, wire, test, and maintain electrical control panels, MCCs, and automation systems in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards. The role is primarily workshop-based, with occasional site support where required Required: Qualifications Matric (Grade 12) N3-N6 Electrical Engineering/Electronics N Diploma Electrical Engineering/Electronics (Advantage) Trade Test (Advantage) First Aid Level 1 (Advantage) ECSA Candidate Membership (Advantage) Required Experience: 3-5 years Panel wiring experience in an electrical environment, involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. The ability to sign-off on all maintenance records and verify that the system is safe and fit for use. Must have troubleshooting skills on electrical infrastructure. Fault Finding & Repairs. Required Knowledge: Knowledge of Electrical systems, especially MCCs and Control Panels. Knowledge of Control and Instrumentation Knowledge of Electrical systems functional design analyses (Advantage) Knowledge of electrical equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of electrical hazards. Interpretation and understanding of Electrical Schematics. Either have or be willing to go on a first aid Level 1 course Knowledge of Schneider, ABB & Siemens electrical products (Advantage) Knowledge of MS Office and Outlook. Job Specification & Key Responsibilities Panel Assembly & Installation · Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand and power tools. · Install equipment inside MCCs and control panels (workshop and occasionally on site). · Install electrical control systems, industrial automation systems, and electrical equipment including: o Control circuits o Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) o Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) o Protective relay panels · Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and applicable codes. · Work from ladders, scaffolds, or elevated platforms where required. Wiring & Technical Execution · Wire panels according to electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and GA drawings. · Understand wiring processes and identify wiring errors. · Ensure accurate, structured, and neat wiring practices. · Follow complex instructions and detailed electrical schematics. · Read, learn, and understand new and existing control system designs. · Mark up electrical schematics during assembly and liaise with design engineers for drawing updates. Testing & Quality Assurance · Conduct point-to-point testing and basic functional testing. · Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs). · Understand the quality implications and cost impact of errors and rework. · Ensure panels meet internal quality standards and client specifications before dispatch. · Comply with ISO 9001 quality procedures (where applicable). Site Support (When required) · Attend to site-related technical queries. · Assist with on-site installation, maintenance, or repair of control panels and electrical systems. · Document operational activities and compile site reports. Safety, Housekeeping & Support · Ensure safety compliance in the workshop and on site. · Responsible for safety and housekeeping of the warehouse and workshop areas. · Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition. · Assist with stock collection and deliveries when required.
