About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper with customs and import/export experience to join our team in Gqeberha. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full accounting function, maintaining accurate financial records, handling customs-related documentation, and supporting business operations with reliable financial data.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records and manage day-to-day bookkeeping.
- Handle customs documentation, declarations, and coordinate with clearing agents.
- Process and reconcile bank statements, accounts payable and receivable.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Process invoices, payments, journals, and payroll entries.
- Perform VAT, PAYE, and other statutory calculations and submissions.
- Ensure compliance with SARS customs regulations and import/export procedures.
- Monitor duties, tariffs, and shipping charges to ensure accurate cost accounting.
- Assist with annual audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
- Monitor cash flow, budgets, and forecasting where applicable.
- Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
Requirements
Minimum of 5-10 years experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.
Experience in customs, import/export documentation, and compliance is essential.
Relevant accounting qualification is advantageous.
Proficient in Pastel, Xero, or similar accounting software.
Strong knowledge of SARS submissions, payroll processing, and financial reporting.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
High level of integrity and professionalism.
