Position Title: HR Officer
Location: Queenstown / Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth)
Department: Human Resources
Reporting To: HR Manager / Plant Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time
Purpose of the Role:
The HR Officer will be responsible for supporting the Human Resources function by implementing HR policies, ensuring compliance with labour legislation and providing dayto-day HR support to management and employees. The role will focus on recruitment,
employee relations, payroll administration, performance management, training coordination and HR compliance to contribute to a productive and legally compliant workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist with drafting job adverts, liaising with recruitment agencies, and coordinating interviews.
- Facilitate onboarding processes, including employment contracts, inductions, and probation reviews.
Employee Relations & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act etc and MIBCO agreements.
- Provide guidance to line managers on disciplinary procedures, grievances, and workplace disputes.
- Maintain updated HR policies and procedures aligned with legislation.
Payroll Administration:
- Collect, capture, and verify payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, overtime, allowances, deductions, and leave.
- Liaise with Finance to ensure accurate payroll processing.
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve payroll queries.
- Maintain payroll and employee records for compliance with SARS, UIF, and MIBCO requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in all payroll-related matters.
Performance & Development:
- Support performance management processes, including appraisals and coaching initiatives.
- Coordinate employee training and skills development programmes in line with company and merSETA requirements.
HR Administration & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and updated employee files and HR databases.
- Prepare HR and payroll reports for management and auditors.
- Support HR audits, compliance checks, and statutory reporting.
Health, Safety & Wellness:
- Support OHS compliance and workplace wellness initiatives.
- Participate in HR initiatives that enhance employee engagement and morale.
Key Requirements:
Education: National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management, Payroll
Administration, Industrial Psychology, or related field.
Experience: 3+ years HR experience with at least 2 years in payroll administration.
Knowledge of South African labour laws, tax regulations, and HR best practices. Experience
in a manufacturing or unionised environment advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of SAGE VIP payroll system.
- Advanced MS Excel skills for payroll reconciliations and reporting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.

- Detail-oriented with strong administrative capabilities.
- Team player who can also work independently.
- Adaptable and proactive in addressing HR and payroll challenges.

- Market-related salary (negotiable based on experience).
