Job Summary
REQUIREMENTS
- South African citizen
- National Diploma in Engineering (preferrably Mechanical); BTech would be an added advantage
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role – managing maintenance activities, planning, scheduling, contractor management etc.
- Experience in a similar industry (fishing, marine, transportation, earth-moving equipment etc.) would be an added advantage
- Understanding of vessel propulsion systems, auxilary machinery and marine safety systems would be ideal
- Understanding of regulatory standards including SANS 10147, SAMSA regulations, OHSA (including GMR2.1), HACCP and NRCS
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement within the maintenance function
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all fishing vessels, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational availability
- Act as an advisor to senior management in delivery of value-added services and solutions for engineering and maintenance
- Manage the maintenance of the fish processing factory, including refrigeration, ice making, trio skinning machines, compressors, and associated equipment
- Develop, implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules for fleet and factory assets
- Responsible for annual CapEx investment planning for the operational assets
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, including SANS 10147, OHSA, SAMSA, HACCP, and NRCS requirements
- Accountable for vessel drydock project management, to ensure that all fleet vessels are fully compliant with marine regulations
- Serve as the appointed GMR2.1 responsible person for the factory in accordance with General Machinery Regulations
- Lead, mentor and manage the maintenance team, including technical staff onshore and liaising closely with Chief Engineers onboard the vessels
- Manage the maintenance budget, monitor costs per cost centre, and implement cost-effective maintenance strategies
- Plan and execute capital maintenance projects within budget and on schedule
- Respond rapidly to equipment breakdowns to minimise fishing or production downtime
- Coordinate with external contractors and service providers to ensure timely and quality repairs or installations
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs and reports for both vessels and factory equipment
