Job Description

The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for providing overall strategic and operational leadership to the organisation. The role entails driving the organisations mandate and long-term strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services, and maintaining full compliance with all legislative and governance requirements. The position requires a seasoned executive with extensive senior management experience, strong financial and governance expertise (including PFMA and King Code compliance), and a proven ability to lead organisational change and turnaround initiatives. The CEO must demonstrate strong business acumen, technical credibility in standards, testing and certification environments, and the political astuteness to effectively engage with government, industry and other key stakeholders. This is a fixed-term, five-year contract role, critical to steering growth, institutional transformation, and sustainability of the national standards body. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Define and execute the organisations mandate, corporate strategy, and operational plans to achieve sustainable growth and service excellence. Governance & Compliance Ensure full compliance with the PFMA, King Code, and all applicable legislation, regulations, and governance frameworks. Stakeholder Management Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, government departments, regulators, industry partners, and internal stakeholders, safeguarding the organisations reputation. Operational Excellence Oversee effective resource utilisation, quality management, and the delivery of testing, certification, and advisory services in line with international standards. Change & Turnaround Leadership Lead organisational transformation, change management, and business turnaround initiatives to enhance performance and competitiveness. Financial Management Direct financial planning, budgeting, financial controls, and performance management to ensure financial sustainability and profitability. Essential Qualifications & Experience Education Postgraduate qualification in Business, Management, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent executive qualification will be an advantage. Experience Minimum of 15 years senior management experience. At least 5 years at executive leadership level within large, complex organisations (1,000 employees and annual revenue exceeding R600 million). Expertise Demonstrated success in strategic leadership, organisational change, financial management, risk management, and governance. In-depth knowledge of PFMA, King Code, and public-sector or regulated environments.
