About the Role
A leading specialist finance firm is seeking an experienced Credit Manager with strong experience in bridging finance or specialist lending to join their team in Cape Town. This role offers an exciting opportunity for a tech-savvy professional to define and control the credit risk framework while driving the strategic evolution of the credit function through digital and AI-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough credit risk assessments and due diligence on all bridging loan applications, including those for property sellers and estate agents.
- Evaluate the creditworthiness of potential and existing customers by analyzing financial data, credit reports, and supporting legal documentation.
- Establish appropriate credit limits, terms, and conditions for loans, ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite.
- Proactively structure credit underwriting to mitigate potential issues and avoid increasing risk exposure.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine credit policies, procedures, and internal scoring models to minimize financial loss and ensure consistency.
- Ensure all credit operations and collection practices are in strict compliance with relevant South African legislation, including the National Credit Act (NCA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
- Manage and maintain audit-ready documentation for all credit decisions and portfolio activities.
- Ensure all applications and processes align with requirements for regulatory bodies such as the NCR.
- Monitor the credit portfolio health, tracking risk exposure across clients and sectors, and reporting on early warning indicators and delinquency trends.
- Collaborate with finance and technology teams to drive the strategic evolution of the credit function, focusing on implementing digital and AI-driven solutions like credit scorecards and algorithms.
- Prepare and present detailed reports and insights on exposure trends, policy adherence, and financial thresholds to senior management.
- Lead and mentor credit analysts and operations staff, ensuring high levels of accuracy and consistency in all assessments.
- Resolve escalated credit-related disputes and communicate with conveyancers, clients, and internal teams to facilitate smooth loan processes and collections.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in credit analysis, risk assessment, or credit management.
- Direct exposure to the bridging finance or specialist lending sector.
- In-depth knowledge of the National Credit Act (NCA) and its application in the South African lending market.
- Strong financial modelling, analysis, and underwriting skills.
- High level of digital and tech acumen, with a genuine interest in AI literacy and data-driven risk management.
- Proficiency in financial software and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Exceptional analytical, methodical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Demonstrated professional values and ethics, including professional scepticism and integrated thinking.
- Excellent communication skills for negotiating terms and presenting complex financial information.
