About the Role
The Bookkeeper is a vital role at Signa Opportunity, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the company’s financial operations are organized and up to date. This position supports budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting, and is essential to the smooth running of our business.
Key Responsibilities
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process
- Verify that transactions are recorded in the correct accounts (general ledger)
- Maintain and reconcile cashbooks and bank statements
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Reconcile supplier and customer statements
- Prepare VAT returns and submit to SARS (if applicable)
- Monitor financial transactions and reports
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing
- Support the preparation of financial statements and reports for management
- Liaise with external auditors, accountants, and SARS when necessary
Requirements
- Basic understanding of compliance frameworks and legal processes
- Familiarity with regulatory bodies and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., VAT Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act)
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Bookkeeping, Accounting, or Finance preferred
- South African Unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 34
- Must not have participated on the YES programme before
