Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum N3 qualification with a Boilermaker Trade (Red Seal).
Minimum of at least 5-10 years relevant Boilermaking / Fabrication experience and 5 years supervisory experience.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (welding & machining symbols).
Able to mark off using laser, total station, and dumpy level
Knowledge on how to roundup shells
Ability to calculate general fabrication dimensions (cord sizes, circumference & squareness of plates)
Prepared to work extended hours and shifts.
Understanding of AWS D1.1 and ISO 3834-2
Good communication skills
Computer literate (MS excel, word & project)
Ability to drive individual Boilermaker performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise and coordinates team activities and monitor actual hours against planned hours and take the necessary corrective actions to stop overspending on planned hours in a workshop environment.
Ensure a mix of practical controls, better planning and real-time oversight.
Ensure job readiness checklists are completed, time lost looking for tools, clamps and waiting cranes.
Take necessary actions guided by dashboard display real-time performance per Boilermaker or project number.
Take responsibility for any variance on your shift, with quick review of jobs-at risk from the dashboard.
Ensure time discipline and distraction control.
Conduct daily toolbox talks. Discuss targets, yesterdays performance, and focus areas for the day.
Behavioural management, clearly communicate expectations, make it clear when movement is acceptable (breaks, safety needs) and when it isnt.
Adhere to the project schedules and ensure necessary mitigating actions are implemented.
Monitor compliance to work instructions and standards.
Training and cross skilling.
Ensure adherence to drawing dimensions and tolerances.
Minimise time on non-productive codes.
Ensure job flow without downtime.
Ensure productivity times are correctly logged.
Set performance expectations per task.
Walkaround with sign-off. Check each workstation on a timed basis and take document activity.
Evaluate equipment, machinery and materials used for fabrication activities to improve efficiencies.
Ensure understanding of the project scope of work.
Continuously plan to ensure no delays are incurred, reviewing human resources requirements, equipment, consumables, outstanding materials and
requesting quality inspections, based on the Clients notice period.
Ensure correct Job clocking and employee record keeping (Hours) are maintained.
Accountable for conducting daily SHE inspections, acting on all deviations raised and informing the Superintendent and SHE department
Stop any unsafe act or condition and remedy such action or condition immediately.
Ensure that all employees on the job are equipped with and wearing correct PPE (personal protective equipment)
Maintaining a positive health and safety record through strong leadership and a consistent focus and awareness towards working safely.
Enforce Company safety rules and ensure compliance to safety procedures.
Ensure that employees are complying with such and lead by example. i.e Mini HIRA & fall protection plan compliance.
Conduct job observations on each employee, monthly, communicating the results to the individual concerned.
Assist in promoting the 10 commitments with the workforce.
To ensure that accidents and near misses are investigated when they occur in your area of responsibility.
Assist in the completion of the NCRs.
Ensure inline inspections are carried out daily.
Ensure strict compliance to QCPs and intervention points.
Discuss quality and non-conformance issues with Superintendent and
implement recommended remedial action.
Ensure adherence to quality standards and report any deviations to the Superintendent.
Communicate job related information to team and provide feedback to the Superintendent.
Motivates & coach individuals.
Analyse fabrication reworks and giving guidance for improvements.
Conduct employee assessment on a one-on-one basis.
