Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an organic conscious Farm to Table Chef/Gardener to join our team in Madagascar. This unique role combines horticultural experience with culinary flair, ensuring that freshly harvested ingredients are used to prepare nutritious and flavorful dishes for our 3 tourism properties.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and maintain an organic kitchen garden in our 3 existing properties and set up our 6 hectare farm just outside the capital Antananarivo.
Sow and harvest crops throughout the year, collaborating with kitchen staff to design menus based on what is seasonally available.
Investigate innovative uses of harvested products and excesses, including pickling, jams, chutneys, drying, and preserving.
Source seasonal fruit from other areas of the country.
Manage composting, pest control using natural methods, and keep detailed records of planting cycles and yields.

Requirements

Experience in both professional cookery and horticulture
Excellent organisational skills
Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge about sustainable food and gardening practices

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Horticulture or a related field

Salary & Benefits

Salary: Starting from $20,000 plus accommodation and transport. Contract length initially 18-months to 2-years extendable. MCC will provide 30 working days holiday per calendar year and cover visa costs, as well as provide 2 return flights per calendar year to/from Johannesburg.
