About the Role
As a Health and Safety Officer at Macrocomm, you will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being of our employees and maintaining a safe working environment. You will be responsible for coordinating, supporting, and advising the Business on all aspects of health and safety, while also establishing, managing, and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain a health and safety management system and EMP system that meets relevant laws and regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Review effectiveness of health and safety measures in the working area.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, accidents, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Identify potential hazards associated with the work done and major incidents.
- Investigate complaints from employees and discuss it in committee meetings.
- Assist in examining the cause of incidents.
- Promote safe practices of the job on site and enforce safety guidelines.
- Verify all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use.
- Train and carry out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
- Respond to employees’ concerns and perform emergency response drills.
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
- Compile daily safety task instructions.
- Facilitate all associated risks to employees and monitor compliance.
- Collaborate with operations teams to identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes to enhance health and safety standards.
- Develop and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Complete reports and safety files for projects.
- Compile OHS for tenders.
- Conduct risk assessments, identify hazards, and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Manage and maintain health and safety records, including incident reports and training records.
- Provide health and safety training to employees, including new hires and existing staff, on safety procedures and protocols.
- Provide leadership and guidance to operations teams on health and safety matters.
- Develop and implement health and safety performance metrics and reporting to management.
- Travel to various sites, conduct risk assessments, and develop site health and safety plans.
- Assist operational teams with day-to-day activities, including managing workflows and prioritizing tasks and recording of health and safety meeting minutes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve operational issues and improve overall performance.
- Travel and accommodation coordination.
Requirements
- A Diploma/bachelor’s degree or relevant degree in Occupational Health and Safety.
- At least 3 years recent and relevant experience in a similar role.
- Valid competency certificates.
