About the Role

Our client in the Insurance industry is seeking a skilled Heavy Commercial Vehicle Underwriter to join their team in Lynnwood, Pretoria, South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting HCV & GIT policies and ensuring that risks are written within the company’s risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting of new and renewal business on HCV & GIT risks.
  • Ensuring that risks are written within the company’s risk appetite and complies with reinsurance treaties and internal mandates.
  • Monitoring and taking corrective action on badly performing risks.
  • Maintaining an acceptable loss ratio.
  • Maintaining policy wording drafts and ensuring that the product remains competitive with market offerings.
  • Dealing with day-to-day queries and amendments to existing policies.
  • Providing brokers with advice.
  • Maintaining and building good customer relationships with brokers.
  • Conducting product training to brokers.
  • Providing comparisons between competitors’ products and the company’s products.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of commercial underwriting experience.
  • Experience working with HCV & GIT-related products.
  • A proven track record of underwriting experience, including assessing exposure and underwriting levels.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • NQF Level 4: Short-Term Commercial Lines 60 Credits.
  • Successfully completed the RE 5 Examination Level 1.

Qualifications

No formal education or certifications are required for this role. However, relevant qualifications may be considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits

The salary for this position is R25 000 per month.
